WHAT TO EXPECT
The written exam portion of this certification includes the core examination and up to four crane specialty examinations. To complete your certification, you’ll need to pass the crane core exam and at least one (or more) specialty designation. Our program is designed to facilitate both core exam prep and specialty prep, allowing you to get the most of out of your training days as you work toward your certifications.
Our training for the written exam portion of your Mobile Crane Operator certification aims to fully prepare you for the test, whether you’re newly entering the field or are an industry veteran. In addition to covering material that’s specific to the exam, we’ll also offer test-taking strategies and a comprehensive practice exam to help prepare you for success.

The Mobile Crane Core Exam consists of 90 multiple-choice questions, and candidates are given 90 minutes to complete the test.
To achieve certification, the Mobile Crane Core Exam will need to be followed by successful completion of at least one specialty exam. The NCCCO specialty examinations include the following:
- Lattice Boom Crawler Cranes
- Lattice Boom Truck Cranes
- Swing Cab
- Fixed Cab
Each of these speciality exams consists of 26 multiple-choice questions, and candidates are given 60 minutes to complete each of these exams.
Following successful completion of your written exams, your next step will be to take practical exams. Your written and practical exams can be taken in any order, but they’ll need to be completed within 12 months of each other. Once you pass these exams and achieve your certification, your certification is valid for five years.
